Open Letter to;
His Imperial Majesty
Ooni Adeyeye Babatunde Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II
THE NIGERIAN PATRIOTS IN SOUTH AFRICA
Led by: FESTUS OMOYELE ALEMEDE (firstname.lastname@example.org)
Your Royal Majesty,
Please permit me to introduce myself, since this is a rather usual piece of letter; although you may not know me, but as the father of the entire Yoruba Nation and Africans all over the world, I know you very well.
I am Festus Omoyele Alemede, a descendant of Oduduwa from Okun Land in Kogi State. I lived and practiced journalism in Lagos until 2009 when I relocated to Osun State where I established Osun Trumpet and Kakaki newspapers until 2013 when I migrated to South Africa in search of greener pasture. I am well known to the palace and had good working relationship with the late Press Secretary Chief Oluwafunmilola, of blessed memory. As a publisher, I am not new to the government, elected representatives, traditional institutions and the people of Osun State.
The Nigerian Patriots in South Africa
I and several other patriotic Nigerians here in SA founded Nigerian Patriots in South Africa in our quest to foster unity and promote socio-economic development among the Nigerian community in South Africa
The Nigerian Patriots in South Africa (NPSA) is a Non-For-Profit Organization established to correct misperceptions of Nigerians in South Africa and to establish cordial relationship between Nigerian community and our host community (South Africa). It serves as a bridge between the Nigerian community in South Africa, South Africans and Africans in general. We strongly believe in the decentralization resources and recognize the family unit as the highest and most important building block of society. We galvanize new strategic partnerships with local role players in order to empower our members through financial service and business development strategies.
We organize community platform whereby the various role players can interact in collaboration or partnerships in order to improve our society at large. This necessitates a collaborative objective where the common bond is no longer determined by race, religion, class or politics – but by the joint responsibility of each individual.
Following consistent xenophobic attack on Nigerians and our other African brothers in South Africa in 2008, 2015, 2016 and 2017, I find it imperative to appeal to His Royal Majesty to echo his royal voice of wisdom, knowledge and authority in condemnation of not just the attack on Nigerians but on African as a whole.
Your Imperial Majesty, it is indisputably clear that both the government of South Africa and the Federal Government of Nigeria lack the political will to tackle this problem while lives and properties worth millions of Rand are been lost.
As the Father of Africa, whose Global Peace Initiative has impacted positively on the Yoruba Nation, traditional institutions across Nigeria and indeed the entire world, your positive and prompt intervention is highly required to bring stability and lasting peace between Nigerians in South Africa and our host nation.
Although we identify with the locals (South Africans) on some of the issues raised but it is ungodly and unjustifiable to label every Nigerian or black foreigners as drug dealers. We know that there are some of our brothers who are involved in some illegal activities such as drugs, child prostitution, internet fraud (Yahoo) and several other criminal activities. We have tried our best to appeal to some of them to stop these activities but they won’t just listen; hence we need a voice of reasoning from our traditional rulers which we believe would change the situation.
- As an Ambassador of Peace, we know that the entire world is your constituency as you have all your children all over the world. We therefore want Your Imperial Majesty to use your good office, authority and God’s given wisdom to help us put an end to this inhuman treatment melted to Nigerians and Africans in South Africa.
- We want Your Imperial Majesty to also communicate with other traditional rulers in all the geo-political zones in the country to facilitate a peaceful resolution both diplomatically and traditionally. All the traditional rulers should speak to their subjects in the language they understand so that those who are involved in dodgy businesses can stop bringing embarrassment on all of us.
- We want Your Imperial Majesty to please engage your Peace Ambassadors such as 2Face Idibia, Gbenga Adeyinka, Kenny Ogungbe, Ojaja Talent Hunt winner and others in the Global Peace Movement to preach peace and campaign against xenophobic attack against Africans in South Africa through music. We are ready to partner with relevant organizations and individuals that would be involved in the project.
- Finally Your Imperial Majesty, we would like you to visit and address your children in South Africa. We would also want you to meet with the relevant authority and traditional institutions in South Africa in order to give them royal guidance towards achieving permanent solution to this pathetic situation.
Your Imperial Majesty, Iku Baba Yeye, Alase Igbakeji Orisa; we have absolute confidence in your ability to bring the desired PEACE in South Africa. The entire children of Oduduwa both from home and other parts of Africa are being punished for the sins of just few individuals. Your children are crying for help and a Yoruba adage says “Abiyamo kii gbekun omo re koma tati were” (toba jobi owe, kabiyesi e fori jinwa).
Kabiyesi, kindly listen to our cry and save us, our children and our hard-earn properties from destruction. You have done it among the Yoruba Obas and with your intervention; unity, peace and love reign supreme among the traditional institution in Nigeria.
Your Imperial Majesty, we look forward to your prompt response.
Your obedient child
Festus Yele Alemede
